President Theodore Roosevelt Portrayed by Gib Young

7:00 pmFree and Open to the Public

The Owen County Historical & Genealogical Society will sponsor an evening with President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, portrayed by Gib Young, on Tuesday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. at the historic Tivoli Theatre in Spencer. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is freewill donation, with proceeds benefiting OCHGS and its mission to preserve the history of Owen County. The program will include a 35 to 45 minute presentation by Gib Young as Teddy Roosevelt, plus a question and answer session, and an opportunity to meet and have your picture taken with Mr. Young.

Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States, serving from 1901 to 1909. He was a very active and energetic president, with accomplishments in several areas including conservation, social and economic justice, health, safety, consumer affairs, foreign policy and more. Roosevelt's greatest legacy is in conservation, which will be the focus of this program. As president, he set aside 150 National Forests, the first 55 Federal Wildlife Refuges, 5 National Parks, the first 18 National Monuments, and the first 21 Reclamation Projects, placing under federal protection nearly 230 million acres.

Gib Young, who lives in Huntington, Indiana, has been a lifelong admirer of Theodore Roosevelt. Mr. Roosevelt's personality, intellect, and zest for life have been an irresistible call to him. Fritz Klein, the foremost Abraham Lincoln interpreter in American today, convinced Young to become a professional interpreter, feeling that his Theodore Roosevelt impression was the strongest he had seen. Besides the physical resemblance, Young has developed the vocal and movements of Roosevelt to a strong degree. He is well-known nationally for his Theodore Roosevelt portrayal and has performed across the country, including national and state parks, national monuments, historic sites, the White House, JFK Library, Smithsonian Museum of American History, state and county museums, and many more.

Did you know that Theodore Roosevelt was the first President to win the Nobel Peace Prize and the only President to be awarded the Medal of Honor? Mr. Young will portray former President Roosevelt circa 1915. The historic Tivoli Theatre is located at 24 N. Washington Street, Spencer, IN 47460. Plan to spend a very enjoyable evening learning about one of our most fascinating Presidents, and our National Parks, National Monuments, and more.
